Danbury Mint 5000 Grain Sterling Silver Proof Ingot, Georgia, 1973, .925 Fine

This auction is for a Danbury Mint 5000 Grain Sterling Silver Ingot from the United States Collection. This ingot is the "Georgia" ingot, representing Georgia, the 4th state of the United States.

This bar was minted in 1973, as indicated by the "73" hallmark on the top edge. There is also a hallmark representing the Danbury mint, and a "P" hallmark, indicating this is a proof strike ingot. I'm not sure what the "H" hallmark indicates.

The front side has a high relief map of the state of Georgia on the left side, with the capitol Atlanta highlighted on the map. The text "Georgia - 4th state" is across the top. The right side has a high relief image of several men on horses, which I believe represents General William T. Sherman and some of his Union Troops. The text "Sherman's march to the sea" is shown across the bottom. All of the images on the front are very high relief, with a somewhat frosted appearance. There's some very good detail in the image of the men and horses. The background fields are a very smooth, mirror like finish.

The back side of this bar has a smooth, mirror like finish, and shows this text:

Georgia
Admitted to the Union January 2, 1788
With 60,000 men, Sherman marched
200 miles through Georgia,
foraging, burning and taking
prisoners.
Georgia's destruction was a
mortal blow to the confederacy.
Peach state

This piece is in good condition, but does show some minor scratches on the surface. See the photos for detailed close up views of this piece. On my shipping scale, this piece weighs 329 grams, which is 5077 grains according to the conversion chart I have.
